Chicago (derived from a French rendering of the Native American word shikaakwa, translated as “wild onion” or “wild garlic”) was established as a city on March 4th 1837 and has since picked up plenty of nicknames along the way. The Windy City and Chi Town being the most popular, City Of Big Shoulders, Second City and unfortunately “Chiraq “ (due to violence) are also used when mentioning America’s 3rd largest city.
